Added some new categories, moved some forums around a bit, and added a few new forums.
Please post your feedback about this here.
Thanks. _________________ Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted - Albert Einstien

Looks good. Should make the forum easier for newcomers to find information about their issue ... and may cut down on the number of basic questions that get asked frequently. _________________

I love the new additions, although I would like to share some thoughts:
1. Although the General forum has a very wide scope and spectrum to cover e.g. from things like "Can someone please tell me where these connectors should go" to "Ive seen the system of my dreams, but its priced at $25,000, is this good value or am I being ripped off?" I think it still belongs within the realms of the Support category even if the questions are not directly related to a real problem that needs fixing.
2. Thank you for redefining the The Hundred Year War forum, its becoming more and more "Non-tech" as time passes and the little text definition makes it look a whole lot better.
3. Something Ive always been unclear about is the "cooling" issue. If someone has a CPU running at 70c, clearly they need help and could be in real serious trouble, so where do they post? More than half the time it ends up in Tech Support and the new changes would also seem to encourage this because the Cooling Tips and Tricks forum has been categorised as a The Chop Shop forum. Surely we need to encourage people to post all of their cooling problems in the Cooling Tips and Tricks forum to attract the correct attention. Therefore shouldnt the Cooling Tips and Tricks forum be categorised as Support and not The Chop Shop?
An alternative could be to get rid of the Cooling Tips and Tricks forum and force people to post all of their problems in the Tech Support forum and all of their "cooler buying" advice questions in the Recommendations forum.
4. Looking at the Announcements it seems to be aimed at posting and discussing issues related to www.motherboards.org and so wouldnt it be better categorised in the Motherboards.org Web Site section?
I maybe totally off track with these ideas but just wanted to ask you |

ok here is what I was thinking
1) General Forum is locked and new posts that would have gone there before can now be put in the appropriate forum such as the new hardware forums or wherever it belongs. If we end up with a trend of obvious non water cooler topics in the water cooler it will point out to us that a new forum needs to be made.
2) --
3) Cooling Tips and tricks is not for support. It is for techiques. Tech Support is for support. The new hardware forums are not for support. They are for discussion. Many of the general forum posts are appropriate for a new hardware forum... Now when the new phpbb comes out and supports sub-forums we may see a full break out of the tech support forum into sub forums at which point cooling can get its own tech support forum.
4) Announcements is a general forum for announcements. It is not just for the main site. If you look in there you will notice many threads in there that are forum specific. For example this thread we are right now, and many other issues.
You are not on crack(edit: oops I read off track as on crack must be time for bed). I appreciate feedback. My opinions are not always the correct ones. Many members use the forums much more frequently than I do and your insight is important. _________________ Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted - Albert Einstien |
