I try to trust everyones advice, but sometimes it may turn out that the person doesn't know what there talking about which is fine I don't judge... personally i try to say in a response that if I don't know for sure about a topic I type something like, don't write this in stone.... etc etc.
Anyway, maybe there could be a series of tests ranging on different topics (hardware, software etc) that could gauge the general knowledge of members, a timed test that would allow for that persons immediate knowledge to ring true, not to have them not timed someone could search the web etc for the answer (theres other ways to get around that but still, timed would be the way)
The scores if the member chose to take the tests could be posted in there profile or near the avataur, so that if they gave a response to a persons particular question the question poser could look and see hey that person probably knows what he's talking about, I'd be happy to help think up some questions, or that could be a thread topic, ex for the hardware test, start a thread where people would post potential questions
Just throwing something out there _________________ Enermax 600 Watt PSU

You do have a valid point, but Im not sure it would be agreeable to many people.
I agree if you post a thread asking for help on buying a new CPU and motherboard, and a reply says "I think you need the ABIT IC7-G and an AMD64 3000+" Clearly that is dangerous. However I havent seen it happen myself and the little mistakes that do happen are often caught by the real "experts".
Also, at the risk of upsetting anyone. I would also use Mr Google to double check peoples' facts before spending money on something. |

I know what you're getting at but don't think it would work too well. This is an informal friendly place; I'm not too keen on being tested to post here
Generallly, we seem to have a working system here - I find that most people are offering good advice and have the sense to keep quiet when they're off topic. After a while you get to know people's area of expertise and preferences and put a little more weight in one direction or another. (Doesn't help newbugs, I know).
Also if someone makes an obvious goof loads of people are only too pleased to jump in to put it right _________________ "that's some catch that Catch 22"
