So... that HSF rated about on par w/ a normal fan, yet it gets a high score. I'd like to see other brands reviewed so the cooling doesn't seem biased toward just one brand...

i added more to the conclusion and it hasn't been updated yet.

peanya, i know that just because it wins an editor's award you think it's biased. i'd like to ask you one question. have you played with LGA before? these things put out about 100W of heat without any overclocking. an overclocked northwood doesn't even put out that much. aircooling is reaching the limits cooling these things and intel is forcing people to go water. if you can gain a good 2 degree without losing noise level, that's a mighty good achievement. if you want pure performance, it can be easily seen with the tornado.

with other systems, especially amd a64 now, gaining 2 degress is relatively easy. get a better heatsink and you get yourself lower temps. with LGA, it's different. aircooling on this platform is ridiculously hard. now there may be better heatsinks out there, and there will be. thermalright released LGA brackets to allow use of xp120 and xp90 on the LGA. these heatpipes will help with cooling, but it won't do extremely much without a high CFM fan. i can be able to tell you that it'll cool better than the mcx775-v, but not all that much. then again, it's based on different design and technology. the swiftech still stays with the base and pin design. thermalright uses heatpipes. heatpipes are superior than the traditional. i awarded the swiftech mainly because of the ease of installation and looks and the possible uses it can accomplish. true it's not the definite best, but there is no definite best for cooling. there will always be better performers. let's just say that when comparing an xp90 to a mcx478-v, the xp90 wins on performance but definitely loses in installation. there are different levels of rating a heatsink.

Since window cases have become the norm , I think the design beauty of a heatsink sells more coolers than performance these days .
