hi id like someone to give advice to a newby to over clocking, i got a p42ghz northwood on a msi 645emax2 with some 2700 333 256 ddr ram, she seems to run quite sweetly but i been reading about it running at 2.6, now to do this should i buy a new psu as its only 300w, its got a volcano 7+ so that should be fine, does anyone have some setting to use on this mobo?
i also got 4 fans running in there as well. any advise directly to these parts would be appreciated and what to buy to improve this little baby. _________________ "there are 2 things that scare me, GOD, and Keyser Sosar" |

Welcome to the Mother Board!
You will need to increase the FSB in the BIOS to overclock it. Start at the default setting and up it 2 or 3MHz. Reboot the system and test it using SiSoft SANDRA free standard edition. The burn-in test will do fine. Or you can use 3DMark 2001SE which is also free. Each of these will stress the system and test the overclock. If these run fine, then increase the FSB again in small steps. Continue this until the system becomes unstable. At this point, try increasing the Vcore (CPU core voltage) one or two steps to see if that will stabilize the system. If it does, then you will more than likely have found the high point that you can overclock without using water cooling. If the system is still unstable, then back the FSB down a MHz or two and try again. Make sure that the AGP and PCI buses do not get overclocked too high. If that mobo's BIOS has the setting for it, make the AGP and PCI buses run at as near default settings as possible.
Let us know how it turns out and if youhave any other questions. _________________ The Gift of Healing
