That is a start but what about video cards, extra fans, pci cards etc....?
I wouldnt rank it as #1.....
The power supplys are decent though on that site from what I have read.. but dont take too much into what their configurator shows.. |

right, but its always good to have some type of knowledge on the wattae thats needed, because if a 350 watt is used, and all theses other components ans hardware are installed on the rig, it may not have enough juice, so its good to be safe.

Well having a psu with too much wattage only affects the monthly electric bill, that link omits the incredible draw of todays video cards altogether.
What if some one just wanted a fast system with a ton of drives, it completely changes the drain on each rail and has no relevance to actual usage. |

im just a big power user, dont mind my love of high wattage psu, it will come down to the choice of the gamer or the user.

Can I put in any wattage of power supply.
So lets say they reccomend atleast 400 Watts.
Can I put in, 450, 480, 500, 600, watts PSU with no problems or is there some limit you must not pass ?

You can exceed your required power rating by as much as you like.
Bear in mind that many manufacures hype up there power ratings though, a 450W Antec is far better than a 450W Q-tec

Seems my posts and everyone elses were confusing...
Its a definite plus to have a large wattage output for the systems sake but make sure the psu is quality.
If you are not a gamer there really is no need for a QUALITY power supply over 350 watts.
Heck stick a utility pole (the ones with the big transformers) in your system.
If it can clean up the power well enough go for it.
Of course that will cost alot more to purchase, each second it is used it will need to power up to its electronics and make the electrical bigger.
If every one could afford to stick the best of the best into a system we wouldnt need a forum.
Obviosly not all of us can afford a Antec 480watt psu then pay the added 10 bucks a month to the electric company for its ohms.
Trueth is if you dont own the latest video card or a sata array there is no need for anything over 275watts, (make sure your psu meets the needs from each of the rails).
So....
The basics of this "sticky" is to inform people and not misguide people.
This was made so people wouldnt post things like #1 site for power supplies....
As i stated that link had no insight on the use of the system and was completely off target from anyone getting what they needed.
I have been insulted by the replies and think it has completely confused new users on this quest when all of the info was blatently supplied, umm up till mine?
Sorry if Im conceited on this issue but I will stand firm on it even if I am scared to death of electrity........... |
