A work unit chugs along at one frame every 11 minutes aprox and then all of a sudden takes 1 hour to do a frame then 28 minutes do the next and then reverts to 11 minutes a frame again. 
No other background activity happening that would explain this either.

Aussie that is freakin weird the first thought that comes to mind is overclocking. then i thought of spyware, and AV. do you have anything automatically scheduled to run? run spybot S&D to see what might be there (probably already have?)- perhaps that will help.

DOH! hmmm.... no clue really... i'll have to check some of my logs now, cause i don't really look at them much. haha
maybe it was a memory leak that it just desided to let go of or a delayed swap out to disc for some reason....pc's are funny like that!

Nope. I'm not convinced of there being any advantage to the -advmethods flag. For example my dual box has been running for 4 weeks without the -advmethods flag and it has only picked up one Tinker in that time:-

My Barton has only picked up one Tinker in the last 30 days as well with no -advmethods flag.
