It's happened again. Shut down for half an hour and restarted to the download of a new unit, I was 28% into the previous one.

BUT, this time I have worked out what is happening.

I have a broadband ADSL connection through BT Broadband. Now, BT uses dynamic IP addressing, which means every time I close the link then reconnect I have a new IP address which the F@H server reccognises as a new CPU and hence I get more work while leaving myself another unfinished project on my tally.

Most ISP use dynamic IP addressing including mine. Getting a static IP address requires you to pay more for such service.

Anyway, if the work unit assigned changes with your IP address, maybe the client software should be rewritten to use the machine mac address as identifier.

Right, I've sent a couple of emails off regarding this matter but I can't expect any instant help as I'm running the Betas. However, now the point has been raised (and yes, my prognosis was correct, dynamic IP and all that) there may be changes in the software to encompass these things, or maybe not. It would appear from this posting that One or two of us are having these problems, which when put in pespective, is not really that many at all compared with the number of software downloads.

This is definitely one to watch in the future, and certainly a consideration to be made for people wishing to partake but have a dynamic IP. Perhaps an admin can post a sticky about this for other potentials.

Until a cure is found I remain folding 24/7, which is better for the team anyway!!

Happy Folding..

That is rather odd - but good news - i left my computer folding from 7:45 am to 2:45 pm, and got 1250 steps out of 2500 done!

The only completed WU I've returned was project 349 (16100 frames) in 26hrs. Is this a good result?

its actually a gromac with 100 frames, the 16100 refers to the amount of molecules.
that time is about average

At least I'm processing now but I know that if I ever want to shut down I'll have to wait for the current WU to complete. It doesn't matter that much now but I was running the prog whilst playing with the O/C to find a balance and as you can imagine the number of times I had to restart.
And I just now begin to wonder what will happen to those incomplete WUs I've left littering the place. I know of at least 10 with my name on.

Surely after the deadline the projects will be reset and reassigned?
