Bios Won't upgrade

Post by Pette Broad »

I'm trying to upgrade What I think is a Freetech P6F91i Board. Am getting 2 error messages. Part does not match, then Wrong File size. The Bios string on this board is 8/28/1998-i440BX-W977TF-2A69KF29C-00. I'm mystified as to the "Wrong Size" message as I saved the old Bios first and its exactly the same size as the latest bios, ie 256k

Google doesn't actually come up with any downloadable results for BIOS updates...

I've got a 2mbit bios with that string but it's for the P6F91 not the P6F91i, hence my question...

Got it from here.

http://www.freetech.com/u.s.a/c.htm

Doesn't seem to be a plain P6F91 listed, just an "i" and "iv" versin. Presumed mine was the "i" version.

Found a site here.

http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=94

There's a Bios upgrade dated 2002 for the P6F91BX plus the Bios I already have. This is a 128k file, possibly the right one?

I think it's time to open the case and check the board for any markings. In the mean time I'll modbin the bioses to see what's inside.

From the Freetech download page:
91i-11m2
08/01/2000-i440BX-W977EF-2A69KF2FC-00
P6F91i PCI/AGP GREEN BIOS (2M)

91iv-3m2
05/03/2000-693-596-W977-2A6LGF2BC-00
P6F91i-V PCI/AGP GREEN BIOS(2M)

So neither one.

From the tacktech page:
91xlast
02/23/1999-i440BX-W977TF-2A69KF29C-00
P6F91 PCI/AGP GREEN BIOS

is the one you want. It still has the 32GB harddisk limit, if you want that patched, visit the forums at http://www.wimsbios.com
