first josh, higher fsb = higher speed everything communicates, and most times, higher ram speeds so - more bandwidth. As to the increasing of the clocks of video and pci, some of today's new baords, namely abit ones allow you to lock the agp at 67 and the pci at 33, making sure that your video and add in cards don't get damaged.

I have been reading about unlocking the barton 2500+ and i have been finding contradicting information. Is this http://anitec.ca/default.asp?ShowPage=ProductItem&FundID=1&pid=680 chip unlockable with the methods you have stated? Is there chips that are totally impossible to unlock? (Great thread by the way)

Thanks for the compliment - this was my first guide. These chips can ONLY be unlocked by the l5 method. At this point, what you want is a mobile 2500+ - see the if you're in the market for a new cpu thread by danny the bum in reccomendations. Although they run att a lower fsb, they are unlocked, and have MUCH lower voltage (1.25v!!) which = MUCH more oc potential.

You said "these chips can only be unlocked by the l5 method" that is the regular barton 2500+ with a 333fsb that you were talking about, correct? I read the tutorials you had linked in begining of the thread and I am not sure which is the l5 method . I am planning on building a system from ground up and I was wondering which cpu would be better, the 2500+ or the 2500+ mobile. I would like to overclock but probably not to the extent of water cooling, would the 2500+ with 333fsb oc better than the 2500+ mobile without serious cooling? Thanks a ton for your help.

well, the L5 method is not listed in this guide ATM. I will add it soon. and the chips are about the same quality, or should be. Also, the mobile should OC better, due to the ability to get your voltage up to stock 2500+ levels when ocing, with very little heat increases over the stock.

I was reading around a bit and found some more info on unlocking bartons. Do these sources sound resonable or would it be a big risk moding you chip in this way?

the L5 method is safe. It's essentially the pencil trick, but in a different spot - provided you have no ditch that is.

Hay I got 1 for you I have an AMD2500+ Barton runig at only 1900+ I set the multyplier all the way up now 2200+ 1779.25 acordin to cpu-z how do I fix that And will doing this mod cause any problems.Name AMD Athlon XP
