Hey - sorry it took so long for me to comment on this.
Yes - I'm a female geek who is a Computer Operations Manager for the US Gov't. (same as an IT Manager in the private sector). There are not any other female geeks in my department and only 3 others in the NCC department. I have worked as an IT Professional for the last 12 years off and on.
Females are usually driven out of the field due to the males making comments such as

(no Johnny - I'm not giving you grief. Your comment just did a good job of illustrating my point.) or because any time we attend any kind of techical function the men think it's some kind of meat market and they are always hassling us to go out with them. I have been to a few LUGs (Linux Users Groups for those who don't know) and it seems like the guys there are only looking for dates. I don't understand why they can't just sit and talk computers or coding with us and leave that other sh*t alone. They might have more luck if they approach it that way.
OK - off the soap box. Anyway - there are a few women here - don't feel all alone. _________________ "You can't go to Windows Update and get a patch for stupidity." - Kevin Mitnick |

If you took an X-section of the Male/Female population then I'm sure a much smaller proportion of the females would be interested in tinkering with computers. This doesn't excuse prejuging people and assuming they aren't going to be a competent tech just becasue of there sex od course.

Ah that would be becasue in their profession they don't meet girlies that often so when they do they get all excited _________________ - Webster - |

*smacks forehead*
Every so often I'll run into a guy who'll say he has "lesbian tendancies" and wonders if I do too. Little tip: that's the worst pick-up line ever! |

You have to remember that I go to college, and so I'm around a disproportionate number of males who wish all women were lesbians. Well, around a disproportionate number who express it.
Eddie Izzard rocks! Good taste, SeMag. |

Any man who thinks lesbians are so wonderful has never seen a real lesbian.
Personally I don't understand the general male obsession (or the perception of the general male obsession) with female homosexuality. Of course, I don't understand why people want to go to strip clubs either. Why would I want to pay to see some sleazy woman take her clothes off? If I ever got to the point where I was that pathetic and disgusting that I had to resort to strip clubs to see a live naked woman, I hope someone would have the decency to shoot me.
