The Telikin is advertised as a user friendly PC for seniors.
There are two models listed on their site: http://www.telikin.com/
18.6 inch LCD touch screen
Intel dual core 1.8GHz processor
2GB SDRAM
320GB hard drive
1.3MP webcam with microphone
4 USB ports
6 in 1 memory card reader
Wireless 802.11 b/g/n
Built-in speakers
Wired keyboard and mouse
or
20” (16:9), 1600 x 900 Touch Panel
AMD dual core 1.6GHz processor
2GB DDR3 Memory
500Gb 3.5 SATA ll hard drive
Stereo speakers with SRS technology
.3MP webcam with microphone
4 USB ports
6 in 1 memory card reader
1 HDMI out
Wireless 802.11 b/g/n
Built-in speakers
Wired keyboard and mouse
Do you think this is worth the price?
From what I've read it's supposed to run on Linux. That may or may not be a good thing.
I'm trying to see if there is anything out there for the non-tech savvy person. This person just wants to surf the net for recipes, tv show information, news, weather. Perhaps stream a movie on Netflix occasionally. But no gaming, not even Solitaire.
Anyone have experience with these computers? _________________ GO GREEN |

My mother-in -law is one of the most technically illiterate person I have known, yet she can use an ipad and iphone with ease... Not pushing those products, but have you thought about an ipad or an android based tablet? _________________ I have been programming on computers since the ZX81.

Well this is for a person that can barely use a pay-as-you-go cellphone.
You know one of those "Wallyworld" specials.
This person would have trouble understanding the features of an ipad, or something similar. I'd like to set her up with something easy to use, with the least amount of chance for viruses. _________________ GO GREEN |

Android and similar OS versions are favored for "palm" units and small tablet computers. More immune to viruses, as they are open-code based. But still not 100% immune.
After a few minutes use of one of the 'palm' units, a user will feel comfortable. The touch-screen features do come somewhat natural in use. The Kindle Fire is becoming popular, both as an E-reader and for light Internet use.. plus for streaming video! And most are truly Wi-Fi friendly, as long as you have a hot-spot nearby. Some are restricted to mainly cell phone use, with Internet capabilities.. but the data time for air links can be expensive. Some models come with a slide-out full QWERTY keyboard.. others have an on-screen touch equivalent. Most have Blue Tooth or similar communications links.. so you can connect to a desk PC. I still have an older "talk-only" cell phone. But it fills my needs. And a digital camera with 6 MP imaging covers the rest. _________________ F@H.. to solve mankind's maladies.. in our lifetimes! |
