Trying to move an AOL PFC file from an old Vista machine to Win 8.
(Yes, I know, but wife refuses to give up AOHell)
User is administrator, but can't copy file to C:\Program Data\AOL\AOL 9.7\Organize.
I keep getting "Need administrator permission" message.
There has to be a setting I'm missing, but can't figure it out. Please help....

Found This. Getting late, so I'll try this later and see if it works.

Just for clarification, no AOL software, bloatware, crapware resides on any of my boxes, just hers. I have been trying. Until I can figure a way to get her favorites from AOL software to AOL.com, she will insist on it. BTW, she is also one of those, who, when installing games, etc, does not read each small window that opens, just clicks OK, and installs whatever toolbar/home page redirect.
Had fun removing all those.

i would think it' worth your time to just manually move the favorites over - saves you a boatload of headache with AOL.

what i've done in the past is just tell them "no. it doesn't work anymore. it's gone." sucks for a few days, but everyone gets over it eventually.

"Administrator permission" comes down to the resident OS being the in-charge 'powers-that be' that can move files into certain folders.. even if not shared. An easy way around is to copy what is needed to a "Transfer" directory, then use the resident OS features to place files where needed.

You guys, he has to live with his wife!

What you should have done was to search for an older-than-windows 8 computer for your wife. You can try turning user interface control to off, that may help. But some things won't work in win8, and your wife may have to accept that.

I will give more specific information later -- must run...

it's not like i haven't told mine that her crap isn't going to work. strangely, she still sticks around.

maintaining old crap like AOL and such is just as much of a headache as a significant other in some cases - so...just saying. wink

I'd create a command line shortcut on the desktop. Right click and choose Run as Administrator. Then use command line to copy the file where you need it.

That sounds interesting. Having almost no command line experience, would you teach me?
