Hi all.
I recently got given a set of 5.1 LG speakers, how would I go about hooking this up to my LG tv given the speakers are bare speaker wire?
2.1 would be fine, 5.1 would be great.
What is the cheapest way of getting these things working?
Thanks in advance! |

What model are the speakers and the television? So we at least have some idea of the available connections... _________________ We hate rut, but we fear change.

Sorry, here are more details.
Speakers are LG LHS-D6230W and the TV is LG 32LH3000. |

| So basically I need to find that dvd player or a dvd player with the same outputs. Will the speaker work watching normal TV though? If not i'm not going to bother. |

Unless there's an option to connect the headphone output from the TV into an input on that receiver: no. _________________ We hate rut, but we fear change.

If the speakers are provided with only plug-in cables, an amplifier capable of the 5.1 channel intent would be needed. The signal output from the TV likely is only a low-power audio signal, barely enough to power headphones!
And if just speakers, likely only analog audio will be reproduced. If the audio output is digital from the TV, then an amplifier capable of digital input would be required. The true setup for a 5.1 speaker system is four "real" channels of audio, with a "fifth" channel that provides separate bass sound from a central front placement. The amplifier separates certain lower frequencies from the entire spectrum, and then amplifies them separately. Bass by itself is mostly omnidirectional.
Having a multi-channel audio setup is of no value, if the encoded separate channel info is not in the audio file. Most common is the two-channel or stereo encoding, but otherwise only "premium" audio files would have the true encoding info in the file. But you could get a synthesizer, and create those additional channels from a two-channel source. Not the same, but does give more spatial effects.
Regular TV fare seldom has more than a stereo audio signal. Only the 'premium' movie channels may provide that multi-channel effect, but usually are PPV offerings. _________________ F@H.. to solve mankind's maladies.. in our lifetimes! |

A 5.1 speaker system like Logitech's X-540 Multimedia should work with this TV.
Unfortunately it appears that I must have five posts before I can post URL's or links.
This is number three of five. |
