My wife's computer has an asus M2N-SLI deluxe mb with 2 sata drives "mirrored". Win xppro as os. For about 2 weeks now, on boot up it finds new hardware. Nothing that I can detect is not working. I try to go to device manager and re-install the driver and nothing successful. I have tried the install disc for this board and used advanced and selected the cd drive as where to look and it can't find the driver there. I have a usb printer and a usb logitech keyboard and mouse on this rig and that has no issues in the device manager. I went to Asus website and downloaded the latest driver for this board and tried all of those, to no avail.
It says in the device manager "unknown device" My question, is there a program I could download that could tell me what the unknown device is?
I appreciate any advice..

if you unplug the printer, does the unkown device go away? i'm guessing you might have changed usb ports with it, and maybe a small item (maybe a usb port directly on the printer) on the printer is not finding the right driver. if you used asus's disk that should have found the mobo device, if it was unknown. how about your video card? sometimes there is an audio driver associated with the hdmi output that sometimes needs programming for.
is your raid intact, and the sata controller still in raid mode?
this page may help give a clue, need some of the info if you hit properties on the device in device manager and find the right string.

have you done a windows update lately? did it try to update any of the hardware?

Use the Administrative Tools/Computer Management to check the Hardware profile. From the "Action" tool button choose "scan for hardware changes". If an 'unknown device' results, click the 'View" tool button and choose "Resources by Type" or "Resources by Connection" to find the IRQ/DMA path. Any "unknown" device still gets assigned to a link. Most devices are assigned only to specific IRQ/DMA paths. Some may go through a 'cascading' IRQ link to a higher IRQ/DMA assignment.
Yes, very possible that by using a different USB port, a previously accepted device will be noted with "found new hardware".
Best and quickest result may be had by pointing the 'driver search' toward the Windows/Inf file. The device ID should correspond to one of the product information files there.

Usually the ATK0110 driver that causes this.. Check the board for bad capacitors...

The unknown device program couldn't find what it was. Everything is working at this time. I will wait and see what happens down the road
