Hi there,
I've just re-installed Windows 7 on my PC running on an ASUS P8H61 motherboard. When athe opening configuration screen for first time running of Windows 7 appears, the cursor is frozen, and doesn't respond to mouse movements or keyboard usage.
At first I attributed it to be the usage of a wireless set of mouse and keyboard as these are often not plug and play. So I grabbed a USB mouse I had lying around that I know to be working, and that didn't work either.
The only other thing that I can conclude is that the drivers for the USB ports need to be installed on the OS after set-up.
However, that said, my wireless keyboard/mouse work absolutely fine in BIOS.
Do you reckon it's plausible that the issue is being caused by lack of USB drivers?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I'm trying to find a PS2 mouse, however don't want to call anyone out/order one unless there's a good chance that this could be the issue.

doubtful, win7 should be able to work with those legacy usb ports out of the gate.
what was the reasoning for re-install of the OS? did you format the hdd?
have you checked the hdd for errors?
everything during re-install go smoothly? what mode you got the sata controller in? ide, ahci, raid?
please list full specs, cpu, psu, vga, ram, etc.

Its possible Windows 7 couldn't load the proper drivers for the chipset.
You could try making a custom slip stream windows CD. It might help.

Otherwise I would track down a PS/2 mouse. Or keep a PS/2 to USB adapter around as backup.

As a general rule, for all computers.. check the BIOS pages as to enabling the "legacy" feature for USB use. Otherwise, a USB device may not be recognized until after the OS has become active.
Also check the status of USB 2 or later features in the BIOS pages.. you may have to activate the newer standards above the default USB 1 standard.
With some most recent motherboard designs, they may not have the PS2 keyboard/mouse ports.. and USB "legacy" is active by default.
Yes, the latest Windows OS should have appropriate drivers for most hardware and devices. But if the hardware is 'newer' than the OS inception date, then drivers provided with the device (and motherboard) need to be installed.
