This is in regard to a Windows XP Pro SP3 PC.

Have been using AVG for years but recently one of my 3 PC's picked up a nasty. Although after doing a scan AVG found it (root kit) but was not able to fix it. None of the popular spyware/malware utilities I have were able to find this hidden root kit. Even FSecure Black Light couldn't find it ????

I have read where AVG has not been that good in recent past, it has some issues. Mr. T said this and I read the same thing when I looked around the web. Karlsweldt and myself use AVG, Mr. T uses Microsoft Security Essentials on his Windows PC's, two folks that know what they are doing when it comes to PC's, so now I am on a fence and rethinking my anti virus utility.

The Key to this is that it needs to be FREE. If a pay utility and not knowing anything else I probably would try Kaspersky but its like $59.00. Going to stay the free route for the time being.

I see some here use Microsoft Security Essentials, AVG and Avast. My question here is of the 3 free anti virus utilities I just mentioned, which would you use? Idea Idea Idea
