This concerns an XP Pro PC with SP3 and IE8.
There are two windows updates that will not download or install? They are
KB2653956 (security update for XP)
KB2675157 (cumulative update for IE8)
Automatic Updates is set to manual. These two updates will not download or install. I get a pop-up saying this.
Security settings are set to default and third party cookies are not allowed.
Ran CC, malwarebytes, Superantispyware and AVG. A bunch of cookies were returned but nothing else.
What is going on with this? Do I have a nasty here ????..............Thanks

Not sure yet, can be the windows update servers are a bit overloaded, these are recent updates.
Other than that, what error codes do you get? 0x8******* ?

No error codes, just a notification that these two security updates were not installed...failed. This has been on going since last night.

In the details it should say why there are failing, that is if you use the windowsupdate webpage.

Error Code: 0x8007001F I am wondering if IE8 is damaged???
Other high priority updates updated fine, its just these two that wouldn't go.

clearing all internet temp files, and running ccleaner registry cleaner has cleared this up for me in the past.

In previous windows versions this error indicated corrupted or mismatched ActiveX update controls. If bdub's suggestions do not work, we can go that route by renaming the corresponding files and make windowsupdate repair the controls.

I ran all those utilities including Fsecure black light. Where do I go from here. All other criticle updates updated fine, it was just these two.
I removed and reinstalled Adobe Flash Player, still the same deal....

I started the PC in a clean boot mode and still unable to get these to updates to download.
I uninstalled then reinstalled Java...still have the issue.
What else can I try???
