Hello, I have been looking into computers for a quite some time now. A couple years ago I bought an I3 laptop and before that which I still lovelingly own is a Pentium 4 2.8GHz. After playing countless games and wondering why my computer would not outpreform or at least on par with less advance desktops I stumbed that laptops are not as powerful as desktops, Well not mine anyways.

So 3 years later im here I am looking into a PC build for quite some time and would like some professional advice hell I would like some advice on the build I am looking at perhaps downgrades I need or upgrades.

If anyone has any suggestions please post them would love to hear them Im looking for a system that will kick ass in the newer games coming out with space to spare, I don't plan on running multiple video cards and thought the 850W would suffice. I already have the monitor keyboard and mouse so that is not needed.

Games I currently play
-Arma 2 / Arma 2 OA
-SWTOR
-WoW
-Anno 2070
-Rift
-Source Games
-Ruse
-World in conflict
-Countless others

Games I am looking into playing
-BF3
-Metro
-Arma 3
-Just dip my hands into some new games without dealing with 10-20 FPS

I'd wait a bit more with buying that MSI board, they have a bad habit of producing absolute lemons from time to time. Other than that, are you planning on running more than one card in the long run? You'll need a bigger PSU then.

Not really planning on running more than one card what I hear SLI is not all its cracked up to be. Im thinking about a 1k-1.2k watt but that seems over the top not like im going for 120Fps lol Just something better than 15-30

Hmm I was reccomended this board by some one who swears by em He said he had about 3 builds with them not a problem with this board Military grade parts on it.

15-30 fps you say ?
than your computer is simply over kill, a 560 ti oc can easily get a 30 fps on bf3 at a decent res.

are you going to make task that require a big cpu ? ( calculation overall ) because you could go with a really lower one than this you.

main point : if you want a stable 30fps , you can achieve it with a 1000$ gaming rig , easily

i spent less than 700 and got my computer - which plays just about everything on high settings in very playable frame rates. 1000 will get you a very good computer.

over 1200 will start to get a little rediculous, in my opinion. then you're spending just to get a few more FPS which you'll never notice.

Roach is right, at 700 you can have a good gaming computer,
base on i5 2500(k) or an amd.
you can drop price if you dont plan to overclock or having intense cooling.

even a 7750 will be able to run bf3 at 1920x1080 at 27-30 and it cost only about 130$ with tax

its rare the game that take 4cpu core(mostly 2 core ), so no need for more than that.
you can take 1 mid graphic card and sli/cf later if wanted but a card that run bf3 easily , will be able to run about all game for some years.
you can of course take a psu that will leave you room for futur improvement such as oc or aditional gpu.

for the mobo you dont have to spend 350$ for a good one, there is some really good one at less than 200$

ram , you can go for 4-8gb , it wont change alot in the coming years

here's a basic breakdown of pricing that i see (there's high and lower possibilities obviously), but should be a very simple guide as to actual cost expectation

mobo 150-250
cpu 150-250
ram 50-100
gpu 100-250
psu 75-200
case 30-100
hdd 50-150

at the low end 550-650
upper-level side 1300

even "low end" components will get you something that plays BF3 and other like games with completely acceptable performance.

you don't need a mobo with all the bells and whistles
you don't need an i7.
you don't need a gpu above a 550
you don't need 16gb of ram
you don't need a 1200w psu
you don't need a 256gb solid state drive

my rig i totally expect to last me 3 years. most likely won't change the cpu at that time, or the ram. only would tack on another gpu or put in a larger one. maybe a new psu if required.
