|
|
I'm not really sure what to upgrade next with this system (if anything). I've done just about everything I set out to do with this system (and then some), but am wondering if there are any obvious weak spots or omissions that I should upgrade to optimize this system....just logical/common sense steps that I might not be aware of. We use it mainly for surfing the web, homework (MS Office), music, videos, some games (internet is currently standard Roadrunner hi-speed broadband via cable). The whole project started it as a Dell GX280 with a bad motherboard, and then get carried away. So far I've upgrade the CPU from a P4 650 to a Core 2 Duo E6600, PSU from stock Dell 280W to a Corsair CX500, OS from XP (32bit) to Win 7 (64 bit), RAM from 4GB to 5GB, monitor, case, and CPU fan. I'm even overclocking it by ~ 17% with good stability over the last month or so.
Thanks in advance for your input.
Here's what's in it now:
MOBO - Gigabyte GA-965GM-S2
CPU - Intel E6600 - 2.4Ghz, 4M L2 cache, 1066 FSB (currently overclocked to 2.8Ghz with 1280 FSB)
RAM - 5 GB PC5300 DDR2 667MHz 240 pin (could go to 8GB if it'd be noticeable)
PSU - Corsair CX500 V2 (+3.3V@25A, +5V@20A, +12V@34A, -12V@0.8A, +5VSB@3A)
Rosewill RCX-Z90-AL fan cooler (very basic)
HD - Seagate 80GB Sata (home to Win 7/64)
HD - Western Digital 500GB Sata (stores XP and old files)
ASUS VH242H 23.6" LCD monitor
CD/DVD player/writer - Pioneer
Syba CMI8738 sound/Creative T20 speakers
Windows 7 Ultimate 64, Office 2007
FOXCONN case _________________ MOBO - Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3

For the gaming department you could add a better graphics card but that would require a bigger power supply... Use the system until the cows come home and then start with a fresh all new setup.
Do you have an external harddisk for backups? _________________ We hate rut, but we fear change.

Yes...it's not hooked up right now, but could be very easily. Before this project began everything important that was on the old 500GB hard drive is also on the external HD. _________________ MOBO - Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3
