Not sure this is the right forum, but thought I'd start here. I'm seeing 55c on air after gaming and I just want to make sure I'm not running too hot given that I haven't OC'd this thing yet. I used Artic Silver paste, but not extremely confident that applied enough or maybe too much. From what I read, it seems there's a fine line on this.
There is a lot of heat added to the room and I thinkg that's actually a good thing, but there's that 'something's hot' smell, so I'm concerned. Just want to prevent premature failure. I count 8 fans total.

Also, I plan to go 4ghz soon and need cooling solution sugestions please.

I just built a new system using the AMD 1100T processor and have questioned my own temp readings while running Prime95 @ 4GHz. From everything I've read so far, you should have nothing to worry about. One question I would ask is are you reading your core temp or socket temp? I would recommend running Core Temp 1.0. My socket temps run between 52-55*C @ 4GHz during Prime95 with a core temp of around 45-46*C. I have also monitored my temps using Gigabyte TouchBIOS, AMD OverDrive and HWMonitor. Only Core Temp 1.0 (with a small screen footprint) and HWMonitor displays my actual core temps.

what program / command are you guys using to check temps? just curious. i am running windows 7, and i use a widget called core temp, but in order for the widget to work, the program has to be open (when you minimize it, it disapears) but still its annoying to have to open it. i guess i could just add that program to the startup folder, but if you have a better widget i'd like to know.

quite honestly i love the widget, i just dont like opening it the way they have it set up

it shows your current cpu speed for each individual core, each cores usage %, and each cores temp. as well as ram usage and some other things

50's are totally fine. 60's are starting to get hot 70+ and you get into trouble.

i've had some cpus idle in the 30s, others in the 40s. under load though, i typically never see them get higher than mid-upper-50's.
