| Has anyone ever tried Glass Etching Cream? Would it have any effect on aluminum? |

Glass etching cream contains sodium fluoride and hydrogen fluoride, a very caustic mixture! Takes several minutes for the mixture to etch the glass surface even slightly. But if used on metals, it would corrode or etch them very rapidly. The preferred method is to use an abrasive blown onto the surface (with a pattern template), or create the pattern in the mold for the glass first, then lightly etch it.
The better method is to use a form of reverse electroplating, where the atoms are drawn from the desired surface by reversing the current flow to the sacrificial anode. The newest method is laser engraving.. where a powerful laser beam actually burns off some surface atoms of the metal. Many companies use huge laser engravers to etch their logos and part numbers on items. Fast, accurate and permanent. _________________ F@H.. to solve mankind's maladies.. in our lifetimes! |

I like the look. I'm too lazy though... I'd probably just order one and save the time |
