What should i save up for?

I can save about $200 a month, and my current rig cannot handle any decent games.

I can spend about $900 on the PC i wanna build(with monitor)

or about 350.00 for a xbox 360, and some addt'l cash for games (I'd buy a HDTV later >_>)

or a PS3, which i dunno if i want

Well here are my 2 cents.

If you buy a console it can essentially do a couple things:

Play games (At least the ones made for that platform)
Play movies HD movies

A computer can be upgraded to keep pace with the latest and greatest games.
Graphics are typically better on PC than on a console.
It can play movies, music, surf the net, upload files and software updates, work on projects for school and work.

While a few games are made for each specific console, most make their way to the PC.

My point is that the Console is only for gaming. The PC is much more flexible.

I would say go for a pc if yours is too old to handle anything. Like the previos poster pointed out, pc's can do much much more than just gaming which makes them not only fun but a versatile tool. Also, after you add the cost for an hd tv the cost of the 360 is most likely much much more than a pc.

I would say that the advantage of a console is just the games. For example you can't play some console games on a pc.... ie halo 3, zelda, etc.

If you want to play games, get a console....

Keep your PC for other stuff.....

Playability with multiplayers and fun.... Nintendo Wii...

Playability with great graphical games... Xbox360...

Expensive ugly box in corner.... Playstation 3......

Sorry if I offend anyone but PC for Games everytime...now more than ever...great range of wide screens and monitors to suit your choice and circumstances....still think the mouse keyboard combo is the best way and most fluid way to play games....

What I like about the PC is the shear range of functions it can perform alsongside gaming.....you can back up save games....run games from a different drive have a dual boot...run games from a dedicated OS...the choices are wide and varied

You can tweek games to...do not always have to run things on max and these days older games can be played on the PC too....eg I can Play the original Quake on XP...can Play tomb raider 2 and 3....I can also play games like Fear....

It is a personal choice for me but PC everytime for games

PC for games, no doubt. Better graphics, better control, better everything. The down side is you can't play the console games, but the games for both PC and Console are usually better on PC anyways.

I'd say go for a 360 if you want to get gaming goodness on the cheap without having to worry about meeting system requirements for the newer PC games.

I'd recommend building a PC over a 360 only if your budget allows for a powerful gaming system. Gaming PCs become obsolete VERY quickly compared to consoles which typically last a good 6 years.

$900 for the whole package isn't going to cut it for future games if you want to turn up the graphics and have a great gaming experience in newer games. If you've missed out on good PC games in the past couple of years, I'd go for a PC.

The keyboard and mouse combo is unbeatable for FPS and strategy games, but if you are into adventure, platformer, and party games (games you'll want to play when you have friends over), I highly suggest going with a console.

I agree with Mr T's suggestions. The 360 will be your best bet. The PS3 is improving it's game library slowly, but it's still not as good as the 360. The Wii's fun, but it's extremely basic with no HD resolution support, has a small game library, and poor graphics (an important factor to many).

I've decided, since my financial situation isn't the best (school is expensive!), I'll get an x-box. I don't have a high-def tv right now, will i still enjoy the experience?

So you don't have an HDTV? Do you still enjoy watching TV? Of course you do... and you will still enjoy the 360 without the HDTV. having high resolution is nice but is not necessary if you can't afford it.

do you have a decent monitor? a friend of mine uses a 20" for his display - looks awesome. throw in some headphones, and it's practically a PC-gaming experience. you'll just need to get the VGA adapter from microsoft (they're sold at circuit city and best buy i know) so that you get crystal clear image. using a component or the s-video will still give you color wash and blurry image.
