It actually seems to be working better at tracking which posts have not been viewed. I switch PC's often and the UltimateBB used to track via the computer, not the user. This is the other way around.

There is a reason html is not allowed in posts. Users can screw up the page. if you look to the left under the smilies when posting you can see that html is off and bbcode is on. click on the bbcode link to see html like commands you can use in your posts.

as for color schemes each user has the ability to select which theme they like the best. Unfortunately I have only two installed and the second desert storm is a bit well you can try it and see for yourself.

There are others available.

you can go http://www.phpbb.com and look for more. If you find some you like let me know and I will install them. Someday in the near future I will design a custom theme for the boards.

Well, not that going from black belt to initiate means much to me because I input what I can, being a moderator on several boards and an active member of many others has shown me that using member levels always has a very strong potential to leave a bad taste in many mouths. The goal is not to say one member posts more than the other or is better educated, but simply to encourage people to offer their advice in order to help each other. An initiate is just as important (here, I hope) as a member of higher board ranking. Personally, I think you should do away with ranking members. People already know who contributes and who doesn't. I'd like to think I've offered some important information in my (archived) posts at MB.

Yes, you most certainly have. I personally don't mind if they stay or go, but I fully understand your concern. This is why the original star ranking was done away with as with anything of that nature, it got abused. People who had not even made 3 posts inwhich those three posts did not help anyone, had 5 stars by their name. With this new method, it is simply a matter of how active you are on the board.

Pah! BB code. Why whould I want to use that when i have learnt HTML I thought you could set up forums so that HTML was filtered as only code that didn't break the page could be used. Anyway I'm not really griping it's only a little niggle.

Just becasue someone posts thousands of times it doesn't make their advice accurate. That was the benifit of the star system, if someone had a low star rating and had made loads of posts one would know to take there advice with a pinch of salt.
The way the rank works is much better though, more levels. How many posts does one need to be a black belt now?
