how would you rank Mafia compared to GTA 3 which in my mind is one kick a** game?

Personally I thought GTA 3 was worth about a week's time of playing. It just got old after that. Vice City was a vast improvement. It just seemed a lot less juvenile of a game. After about your 50th car boost, and another trip to the hotel to lower your wanted rating, it just gets old. Only all the hidden items/features and better quests in Vice City made that game interesting to me. Mafia has a similair game theme, except it's not all about stealing the closest car you can see, and race to the next quest. In Mafia, the police will actually chase you down for any accident, any weapon seen, even if you just run a red light. In mafia, stealing cars isn't the main feature/appeal of the game; it is just something available to you in a pinch.

Anyways I found Mafia to be much more entertaining, and the campaign mode is much more enthralling than GTA. But if you are a fan of GTA, there is the Free Ride, and Free Ride Extreme modes in Mafia that are basically exactly like GTA. So in summary, Mafia is more sofisticated, and based less on mindless violence.

Yeah mafia is a better game. I find gta3 extemely repetitive and after a while quite boring to be honest. Most people I know get their kicks outta using the limb and tank cheats and going amusing killing spree's to see how many stars they can knock up.

Mafia has much more depth and its more story driven than gta3 which hasnt really got a story at all to keep you engaged in the game. Also the character animation in mafia is stunning, as are the graphics.

After I went through my mass killing stage in gta3, I went on to finish the game, and to be honest it all seemed pretty pointless and became a chore rather than a fun experience. With mafia I was interested in the plot and it drove me on, which is what all games should be like. In saying that mafia has its bad points, namely driving the whole way across the city when you can only do 30....seemed pretty pointless too.
