The Mother Board

I found a mother board in a tower case in the garbage the other day. How do I identify it?

Ah the ancient art of dumpster diving is not lost on you young ones!

Best thing to to would be to look for any markings on the board. Usually found around the ISA/PCI slots or the outside of the motherboard surface. Anything that might indicate a model #.

Thanks for the reply. The only thing I see is PLATO written on the back. I did a little research and found that Intel made a motherboard nicknamed PLATO, but this one does not resemble the one they had in their diagram.

Markings on the back rarely help, but in some cases they can. Make double sure there is nothing there. Perhaps some stickers?
Was it in a Dell, Compaq, or HP case?

Picture time me thinks or there must be a PBAxxxxxx-xxx or AAxxxxxx-xxx number on the board.

Okay, on the side of one of the ISA slots are five stickers. Going left to right, the first is a bar code with "M5194135177 Made in China" written underneath the bar code. The second says 'AMIBIOS 586 1985-95American Megatrends EH 32988. The third is one that says it complies with FCC standards. The fourth and fifth are quallity control stickers..

Could be a pc chips board aswell.
Post a description of the board (PCI/ISA slots, form factor, memory, etc..) or a picture would help too...

Well, I can't get my hands on a digital camera today.

It has 3 PCI slots, 2 ISA's, a pc100 SIS530 and a sis5595, 3 DIMM slots, it DOES say Socket 7 on the thing with the lever/clamp that the processor sets in, and the processor is an AMD-K-2.
