Windows 7 Unidentified Network No Internet Access

Postby joe_devore » Sun Jan 03, 2016 12:57 pm

I finally decided it was time to upgraded my Windows XP Pro x64 PC up to Windows 7 Ultimate...
The install went fine :D

but the network comes up Unidentified Network with No Internet Access... PDT_Armataz_01_19

I have it connected directly to the router as it was under WinXP when the internet connection worked...
cable is Cat5e also works fine...
I also set Static IPs for the IP v4 settings which is what I do normally anyway... that didn't help wither
I could not ping the router either... :(

I have tried different Driver version of the Marvel Yukon Gigabit NIC (driver file, yk62x64.sys) including the
ones provided by Microsoft... to no avail...
http://www.marvell.com/support/downloads/search.do

mobo is an ASUS P5NSLI
https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5NSLI/
I also have a Nvidia GTX 750 Ti ACX by EVGA

CPUz report: http://valid.canardpc.com/fakxfs

I had all the driver files in advance of Win7 Install and the driver installs went fine too...

I've already tried googling it to no avail plenty of searches just none that helped me...
so my last resort is mobo Forums here.

Did you 'upgrade' from winXP to win7 or did you do a clean install of win 7?

Have you cleared the CMOS and set the BIOS up again on the motherboard? (Make sure PXE booting is disabled)..

Also clear the static IP from the router and set it back up again - routers have a habit of dishing out the assigned IP to another MAC address, usually rebooting the router resolves...

I did a clean install of Win7.
No I haven't touched the BIOS settings in a long time.

PXE booting? ... I could not find a setting specifically called PXE in the BIOS...
"Onboard Marvell LAN Boot ROM" = Disabled.

you miss understand..
The DHCP on the router is configured to use IP range 201 to 210, I setup my PC's IP to use 192.168.1.110 and the router configured to be 192.168.1.1
so the static IP config is correctly set.

I have already tried rebooting the router to no avail... this Laptop I am on also has Windows 7 Ultimate running just fine so its not the router...
I also found an update the other day for the router's firmware that upgrade went ok. but did not fix this issue on my desktop PC.

That looks like the issue, you need to specify the IP address to the mac address in the router (MAC binding) or the router will pass the IP address to something else... Router firmware varies, when I was running a Draytek Vigor, you could stirctly set it so the IP address was always bound to the specified MAC address. ON the TP-Link I am using now, binding isn't so strict and gives me odd issues after a power cut, the usual culprit is step daughters smart phone stealing IP's. Disable the set IP on the PC and use DHCP, if you connect OK, the router needs the MAC binding set..

That shouldn't be the case that PC connected just fine when windows XP was installed on it...
using the same settings..

MAC binding didn't help.

as I mentioned in my first post...
my PC can't seem to talk to the Router, cable is fine, Gigabit NIC is fine... there is something wrong with Windows 7

Thats XP, not windows 7, try setting the PC to DHCP, then repair the network stack with winsock fix, reboot the router and see if the PC connects... Also try disabling the firewall, unlikely, but may have an issue..

some one gave me a Netgear WG111v2 USB WiFi Adapter which works in restoring network connectivity... consider this a work around until I can get LAN working...

I bought a TP-LInk Gigabit NIC off of Amazon and installed that today... it works to restore networking too...

PXE is essentially LAN booting

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preboot_E ... nvironment

Not all boards/BIOS have the option or are always named the same.

In manually setting network parameters there's always the risk of typo's. Try using DHCP first. I bet if you set one of the other networking stuff you used manually you are having the same issue.
We hate rut, but we fear change.
