I've tried several distros over several weeks. Some worked, while others didn't.
The features varied between them all. It would be great to find or make a distro that had all the apps I wanted installed.

Does anyone have any experience using any of these?

SUSE Studio

Live Systems

Instalinux

I've tried SUSE Studio a couple times, but my attempts failed. I get the jest of how to use it. It's the behind the scenes selections (grub, boot loader, etc) that mess me up.

I would like some kind of instructions on how to use it. Explaining what items I need, what they do, and why I need them, etc.

the items you mention are the same between all the linuxes. they're used for multiboot configurations but can be left alone (default config) if you run just one OS on your system.

Ok, so they are names used for the same thing?

What are the basic things I need to have in order to run a LiveDVD?
I'm looking for a good starting point to build on.

Once I get the must haves taken care of, I can focus on the apps I want to add.

:? Not quite what I was looking for.

What are the basic parts (Boot loader, GUI desktop, plugins, hardware drivers, etc.) I need to have a working distro?
