Does processor wattage (95w and 125w) affect the motherboard

Postby chautrongduc » Sat Sep 12, 2015 3:16 am

Hi all,
I currently have a MSI ms-7597 ver 1.2, as i hang around the MSI specs site, I found out that this board support maximum 95w processor (AMD phenom ii V6 1065T) : http://www.msi.com/support/mb/GF615MP33 ... upport-cpu
*GF615M-P33 V1.2 is the same version as my board.

However there is a later version of this phenom ii V6 processor which uses 125 w (phenom ii V6 1055T and 1090T) http://www.amd.com/en-us/products/proce ... /phenom-ii

Will this effect the board at all? can i still use the 125 w one?

Welcome to Motherboards.org.
Stay with what is recommended as maximum with motherboard features. Otherwise, could void any warranty.
The extra wattage needed for the CPU may load the PSU output to a marginal status. You may have to increase its wattage. Not to mention the extra 30 watts of waste heat generated by the more powerful CPU.
If t;he case is the mini-tower type, there may not be sufficient air circulation.. and overheating could result.

Post specifics of your system. This helps in providing recommendations.

The board is designed for handling 95W on the processor socket, going beyond may blow up the regulators on the motherboard or at the very least give you an unstable system. MSI are not known for over-engineering their boards so no safety margins...
We hate rut, but we fear change.
