I guess we all have received jokes, attachments, photo's and pictures from we meaning people including friends & family and never caught a nasty from them but that does not mean you can't.

My question is can a nasty be received by a person via an email that contains text only. In other words can any of the words used in a text only email be actually code for a virus or some other type of nasty?

it is possible that a text-only Email can be malicious. Auto-play links may evoke a URL link, and you have no way of knowing!
Best advice.. if the message looks suspicious, view the header info before opening.
