Which Windows 10

Postby c327 » Sun Jul 26, 2015 6:12 pm

Buying a new PC that will require a new current OS which in this case will be Windows 10 Pro but which version?? There is the 64 bit, 32 bit and I think there is one that is both 64 & 32 bit. I have old HP stand alone printer and scanner that still does what I need it to do even if it's slow. I have some software that is old that I probably could replace that may or may not work with a 64 bit OS ????

So which way should I go .......64 or 32 bit ?????

Thanks

The current trend is a 64-bit OS platform. It will work with 32-bit programming, very few problems.
"Compatibility mode" as it is called. But older 16-bit programming may have issues.
There are reportedly seven versions of Win 10, from basic 'home' and 'mobile' to 'server' and 'minimal footprint' as used with POS devices. The authentic MS links are not as easy to decipher as the following WIKI links..

Check with HP as to proper driver for the OS version..

I tried to contact HP and they said that my printer HP 960c was no longer covered under warranty, like I didn't know that. I did not see any drivers noted for Windows 10 or 8

This printer is old and belongs in a museum but I fill the tanks and it prints slow but it does serve my purpose and the cost of printing is much less than if I bought something new and current so I would still like to use it on Windows 10 if I can.

Trying to communicate with the folks at HP reminds me of my years ago experience in communicating with the foreigners at Dell, a company with no face IMO.

I don't recall posting another thread regarding my HP 960c printer as it pertains to Windows 10 ?????

That will be a NO for the scanner I fear, seeing the inordinate amount of fuzz needed to get it to run in windows 7:

It really is a shame.

I was told the printer will work? The scanner you say won't, great just great. Today I received my Windows 10 Pro CD from newegg. Over the next few days I will clean install it on my custom built (November 1 2009) Intel i7 860 2.80 GHz, Crucial 2X2GB DDR3 PC3-10600 PC. I know the PC is a little old and dated but it still works good thanks to using all good hardware.
