Anyone use a 25ft high speed HDMI cable?

Postby ATrebeau » Sun May 31, 2015 4:33 pm

Has anyone here used a 25ft high speed HDMI cable for their HDTV?

Also, if you remember the maker and AWG that would be great.

Looking to possibly purchase and want to compare/consider experiences by others before deciding on length. I am aware of Monoprice, Rosewill, and some others. I've read several articles and posts online r/t different AWG's; ie, 24, 26, 28. I've also read about active cables and RedMere technology. I am asking about non-active high speed cables primarily but any comments are welcomed and appreciated by those that have actually used one or know firsthand someone who has and their experience.

THANKS

Here is a link for comparing a few brands..

With wire gauge, the lower the number, the heavier or thicker it is. Long runs of power cable have greater loss than with signal data, but there is always a capacitive and resistive loss, regardless of length or gauge. For longer runs than say 10M or about 100 ft., go with the next heavier gauge.
Not only the gauge of the wire, but the insulation of it, and shielding of data pairs and entire group of wires can affect losses.
Examples, typical power cords: http://www.powerstream.com/Wire_Size.htm
AWG 22 gauge wire is rated at a nominal 5 amps.
AWG 16 gauge wire is rated at a nominal 13 amps.
AWG 14 gauge wire is rated at a nominal 15 amps.
AWG 12 gauge wire is rated at a nominal 20 amps.

Thanks, Karl.

I believe I've decided to just go with a 15ft cable for now. It will "just" be long enough. Will likely go with a 26 or 24 AWG but might simply go with the Rosewill 15ft. It is 28 WGA but has plenty of happy campers using it with no complaints. If I had a bottomless wallet, would likely never go with anything other than 24 AWG.
