updating tablet os or browser?

Post by BIGMAN131307 »

I would like to download a few ''free'' apps to add to our tablet. But when I try each site tells me my browser is outdated, or something to that effect. If this my PC or laptop, I could easily fix that. I have no clue how to determine which browser or version it is. All I do know is our tablet has two browsers. The first might be chrome, but I'm not sure. I'm just guessing because it always defaults to Google when opened. We never set any homepage. The second browser is marathon. I never heard of it until we got this Polaroid PMID921X tablet. I try downloading from Google Play but I get the unsupported message. :(

As for the versions, I have no idea what they are. The same goes for the tablet OS. I don't know what OS it is, or what version it is.

FYI: The apps I'm trying to download are free fishing apps like the following.

NYDEC Fish&Wildlife App
Fishidy

How do make the necessary changes, so I can download these free apps?

It should be on the casing:
http://www.southerntelecom.com/polaroid ... dates.html
but there's no update for the firmware ROM.

not much info in here:
http://www.southerntelecom.com/polaroid ... 1X_QSG.pdf
Since Polaroid tablets are not yet licensed with Google Playstore yet, you have an option to download apps using Amazon App store or by downloading apk files using APK installer or Download Manager. To find app stores other than Google Play, i suggest you do the following: -go to menu -look for the widget called " download app stores" -you can now download an app store to get your apps.
http://androidforums.com/threads/help-w ... 1x.894435/
says you can use this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthr ... ?t=2066041
to change out the ROM. Experts only.

In short: this is not the best support for a tablet I have seen so far...

The case has the information on it. The site just doesn't list the model we have. :(

All I know for sure is this is one of those ''el cheap'' tablets. You know those that cost under $200.00
I tried the manufacturer website for updates, info, etc. But they don't even list it there. :(

Even the other sites they list to download apps, don't work. They all say browser not supported. How can I install an updated browser? How can I do it when the sites claim the browser is unsupported, not letting me download another?

:(

Bring up the browser, look for a tool tip marked "help" or "about". Should be a version number, and maybe a site listing?
Like with some tablets, use a finger to drag down the top edge of the screen. Should be extended features available.
Perhaps these links may help..

I've been to those linked sites already. The tablet we have Polaroid PMID921X is not listed there.
At least I haven't found it.

It seems like this particular model was a "one hit wonder". :-|

Sounds more like a one time experiment by one of the big supermarkets. Seen that one happen before, it usually doesn't end well...

I looked at several of listed "close" models, and all ask to check a 'build number' to ensure the firmware is correct.
Have you tried browsing for that 'build number along with firmware'?

Model: PMID921X
BN: 06.01.003.039.01

When I do a search using both I find information dealing with telephones. :(

That doesn't help me at all. Is this tablet so ''special'' that I can't do an update on it? :(

All I want to do, is take advantage of its usable technology.

It looks like rooting it and then loading a basically unsupported Android release is your only option to make it more usable. I'm not sure if the Amazon App Store has got what you are looking for....

i would root it and load a new ROM on it...which essentially would make it "appear" as though it's a different device and would allow you to update/install basically whatever you wanted.

i rooted an old phone of mine and loaded a bunch of different ROMs on it - was very easy actually.
