DrWatson Postmortem Debugger (update?)

Postby joe_devore » Wed Feb 18, 2015 7:02 pm

I was wondering if anyone knew if M$ ever released any updates for the DrWatson Postmortem Debugger?

With v5.2.3790.3959 being the version that comes with WinXP Pro 64bit SP2
drwtsn32.exe
v5.2.3790.3959 (srv03_sp2_rtm.070216-1710)

While I will always use and Prefer
- MinGW (port of GNU Compiler Collection)(http://tdm-gcc.tdragon.net/ version seems to be up to date with gcc...O_o)

for IDEs:
- Code::Blocks and/or
- Dev-C++
- or for my one program a Temperature Converter I use a text editor and cmd batch files to compile simple and light weight :D
http://www.flos-freeware.ch/notepad2.html
for Dev stuff

long story short there are several updates being pushed with the MS Visual C++ 2010 (last version XP can install it seems..)
one being a hotfix for M$ Installer that never appeared in the MS updates !_! M$!!!!!
and one as well for the help file system and the DW20.exe to replace the old Error reporting system all being pushed as part of the VS install.....

All support for Win XP has been discontinued. Only the Malicious Software Removal Tool (KB890830) will be issued monthly for a while longer, until all the POS and ATM systems are upgraded.
The MS Update site may still have "other" update files for a while.

yeah.. compiled, uploaded, just never pushed to Windows update...

I had discovered these updates that were not pushed to windows update but forced
to install when I attempted to install M$ Visual Studios 2010 by its intall process (oldest available on there site...)

- Microsoft Application Error Reporting DW20 (v12.0.6010.5000)_shared.msi <-- a new version?
v11.0.8160.0 in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DW\dw20.exe
v12.0.6010.5000 in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DW\dw20.exe

does NOT seem replace the old version dwwin.exe v10.0.5815.0 in C:\WINDOWS\system32

- Windows Installer (v4.5)__WinServer2k3.WinXP-KB958655-v2-x64-ENU.exe <-- a hotfix update for which updates ONLY th msi.dll
- Microsoft Help Viewer Setup (v10.0.30319.1)(x64).exe <-- ?_?

while I got M$ Visual Studios 2010 (oldest available on there site...) to install,
it would NOT run it just kept crashing...

AND WORST OF ALL IT D.E.S.T.R.O.Y.E.D. ALL OF MY CUSTOM FILE TYPE ASSOCIATIONS
I had created to link programming sourse files together with

1- Notepad 2 text editor for use editing source files to be compiled with MinGW
2- Code::Blocks IDE used with MinGW
3- MinGW 32bit (I haven't decided yet if I want to setup the mingw-w64 or use TDM

..IT D.E.S.T.R.O.Y.E.D. ALL OF MY CUSTOM FILE TYPE ASSOCIATIONS..

Hope you can recover those links! Bummer!
What version of .NET Framework is installed? MS does offer a 'kit' which may resolve some problems..
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... x?id=23507
Win XP Pro (64 bit) does work compatibly with 32-bit programming.. but if a 32-bit program attempts to load two commands as one, the system can have bad hiccups.

Eyy Karl,

I had to manually check and re-do every single FILE TYPE association lost,
and some file types like have multiply entries...
.workspace - Code::Blocks workspace FILE-TYPE has many entries
-- Open w/ CodeBlocks (was originally just open)
-- Build w/ CodeBlocks
-- Rebuild (clean) w/ Code Blocks
-- Edit w/ Notepad 2 (workspace is a xml formatted text file ^_^)

most just needed these two
-- Open w/ CodeBlocks (was originally just open)
-- Edit w/ Notepad 2 (I set all src files to use this as default open w/ because I like to use this text editor to do most of my editing)

I like Notepad++ too and I only use the root file type association which it gives the ability to open anything in NP++,
I leave it like this for NP++ mainly because NP++ uses a general File Type label that does not differentiate one file type from another...=(

I have as follows see attached pic for installed programs,
