I am doing a remote hook up on my friend's computer to see why windows 7 is running slow.

When ever you go to open something the Webshots picture on the desktop disappears. I tried using Windows7 manager ... it cleaned the registry, but locked up when I asked it to use the junk file cleaner.

I asked it to use Malwarebyte I got the security prompt ... but nothing after that. When using the browser it will lock up too. Sometime it will lock up during boot up. Sometimes it takes a while for it to open a program. However I am able to open my computer or the window update and it working as it should. While this is going on. So something is definitely up with the OS ... any ideas?

Open the Task Manager and check how many applications are active. More than 6, the system is top-heavy with needless programming active in the background! Also check how many processes are listed. Should be less than 50, if you want a properly running setup.
Ensure that if using a third-party antivirus and firewall program, that only one is active. Two active firewall programs can drag performance down greatly.

Also possibly a viral infection. Do a scan in 'safe' mode, when most viral forms are inactive.

Seem to recall Webshots had some nasties a while ago. Try removing it and see if it runs any better.

Indeed, found many references to problems with a search for "Webshots problems".. and that a "Smile" app had malware!
