Is this a good PSU?

Postby Norman Castle » Mon Nov 24, 2014 1:45 am

I'm wanting to buy a PSU. I like the look of this one from the advert, but I don't really know. Is it a good quality product?

Looks decent, from a few reviews found. Decent warranty limit.
As long as a PSU has more than adequate power output for the system, should last for several years.
A PSU with only one +12 volt rail can cause system instability problems.

hrm. I beg to differ. was it ever reviewed on a reputable website? does the "manufacturer" have a website? Where can you turn to if this things goes up in flames when loaded >50% of the rated wattage?

Short answer:NO

What exactly do you want to run from it?

Did note "decent", not "great". Did some more searching on the PSU. The price of the PSU is what concerns me. Paid more than double the price for an Antec 650 watt unit! The only other reference found is model # AD-E750AE-A6 with a few different brand names. No reference found as to manufacturer. Curious.. why listed as having four +12 volt rails, when only two are noted on the power label? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Artic-Rails-Bro ... uctDetails

Interesting find that real part number, now we have at least a label with claimed ratings for this thing:
http://microdream.co.uk/media/catalog/p ... 3762_3.jpg
So, we have 4 12V rails that are rated for 32A each, yet the total allowed is 54A, not 128, not even 64A. That 54A on the 12V section would be 648W on the 12V alone. Yet, the +5/+3.3 section can deliver 170W and then 170+648=just 729W instead of 818W. Let's just say that whenever the numbers on a label don't add up, I am extremely cautious about trusting ANYTHING on the label.

Do everybody including yourself a favor, buy something labeled:
Seasonic, XFX, Corsair, BeQuiet, EVGA, Superflower
or if that is really out of your budget an FSP unit.

You wouldn't trust inferior tires on your car or truck. If one blows at highway speed, it may be deadly.
Same is true of a PSU. If it "blows", could take out the entire setup!

2 options for now that have a reasonable price for the quality you get:
