Devices between parenthesis [ ]

Postby henk kunder » Sun Nov 16, 2014 3:06 am

After instatalling a brandnew unused harddisk the BIOS present my harddisk, CD ROM en floppy as unreacheble. the devices appear between brackets in the setup schreen.

I can not change these settings in the BIOS.

Resetting the BIOS does not solve this.

How can I change the BIOS setting?

Not a word about this in the manual

Motherboard = Asrock KBNF6G

Welcome to Motherboards.org.
Specs link for that mobo.. http://www.asrock.com/mb/NVIDIA/K8NF6G- ... x.asp?cat=
Some more info on your system setup.. are the drives in SATA primary mode or RAID mode?
Don't use any form of RAID setup if not having identical hard drives. Set the function as "auto" or "JBOD".
The primary port for a SATA hard drive is "SATA 0" Optical or other drives use "SATA 1" port.
A new hard drive must be partitioned and formatted before use. Boot directly to an OS install disk and do that process.
Set the BIOS to search other boot paths. If a bootable optical drive is found, you get only a few seconds to respond to the message "press any key to boot from CD (or DVD)".

I think the whole system went titsup after adding additional strain to the power supply.

What make and model is the power supply?

Just as a file name or folder name, a drive's assigned letter (name) is in parentheses.
A device name normally is not.
About drives in parentheses.. down about 1/3 the page, "Simple Disk Management"..

Also check for bulging/leaking capacitors. That board suffered.
