Firefox/Thunderbird Issue

Postby Mark H » Fri Oct 24, 2014 4:42 pm

Continuation of post I made in Forum Problems.

I believe I have isolated my problem to having Thunderbird open. When it is open, I have a bad screen "jumping" issue while using Firefox. The jumping seems to be only on the upper third of the screen. Thought is was desktop showing through, but doesn't appear so now. If I close Thunderbird, jumping is virtually eliminated. Absolutely no issue with Thunderbird being open using IE or Chrome. Using Chrome at the moment. Initially thought video driver, but no updated driver available.

Dell Inspiron 1545
Windows 7 Home Premium-all current updates,

Firefox 33.0
Thunderbird 31.2.0

Have run MSE full scan, Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, CCleaner, and Hijack This with no nasties found.
Have not yet run scans in safe mode.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Mark, I've noticed the same or similar issue randomly with Firefox since upgrading to 33.0. No set circumstances to when it does it, necessarily but have noticed it when used in conjuction with a Flash window opened, chat, etc. Never experienced it before the upgrade. Doesn't always occur in that circumstance.

If Thunderbird is open and maximized, it tries to show through the FF window. Seems to be more severe if I click on a link in an email message. If TB is minimized or closed, no problem (at least so far today).

Same here but no Thunderbird. Let's say I have a Flash-driven chat window open as a separate window (ie; not a tab), it will occasionally try to bleed through (flickers) through Firefox. I've even experienced already having closed that other window and the flicker or ghost remnants happen. So since you and I are having the same issue but two different programs are causing it, the common denominator is Firefox. The problem lies within it; ie, the culprit.

Just installed Thunderbird on my Windows 10 test laptop, and so far all is good. Wondering now if maybe an issue with Win 7, or just my other laptop. Confused.....

FWIW, Windows 10 Evaluation Copy seems rock solid.

Always will be some compatibility problems with a new OS and existing software. Each vendor scrambles to "catch up", in a sense. After at least 6 months in field trials and feedback, something good may come.
Will have to upgrade my main system some day soon. Still using XP Pro. But at least my security suite and browser still honor it. Not happy with Win 7 on my F@H rig. Too restrictive as to access to folders and such.

firefox 33.0.2 is out. from the release notes I see some issues with some graphics drivers so that can be related, did you update your drivers on that win7 laptop?

Updated both Firefox and video driver. Have TB maximized behind Firefox, and no issues so far.
