Upgrades

Postby jaegg » Wed Jul 23, 2014 9:17 pm

GigaByte GA-970A-UD3 AMD 970 Socket AM3, is my current motherboard and I am currently running a FX 4100 CPU with 8 gigs of ram and a AMD Radeon HD 6850 1GB video card. I would like to upgrade the CPU, RAM, and maybe the video card without breaking the bank. I'm unsure of the current max CPU this board will support, without flashing the bios. I was looking at http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloa ... x?pid=3907 and the FX 8150 is supported by the same bios as the 4100. And was looking at something in the neighborhood of GeForce GTX 760 for video. Upgrading ram to 16/1866 gigs. I am running Win 7 prem. as OS, with Cooler Master 700 PSU. Been awhile since I've built or upgraded anything, so I figure I'd ask the people in the know. :?

8150 is a good upgrade as is the GTX760, and they don't break the bank either..
I have been programming on computers since the ZX81.
I am an apprentice trained Electronics Engineer with qualifications to back it up.
I have been repairing computers since 1996.
Yet to some people I still know nothing...

what is your ultimate motive for the upgrade(s)? a cpu vs gpu upgrade can/will give you performance boosts in different areas of work/play...

Mainly I use this machine for gaming. But Mastercam, Autocad, and Solidworks are also being used on this machine.
