Windows 7 support to end in 2015..

Postby Karlsweldt » Fri Jul 11, 2014 5:05 am

Heard a recent news item that Microsoft® will end mainstream support for the Win 7 OS version on Jan. 13, 2015.

The end of extended support is still predicted to January 14, 2020.

The end of 'mainstream' support means that updates and patches will no longer be provided as needed. But for the Malicious Software Removal Tool and possibly some critical security issues, that likely will be provided for many months after the "DOA" date.

So install Service Pack 1 and enjoy "no support time limit set":

The same as with XP, first the vanilla installs will go unsupported but the SP3 installs were still supported...

I am good with "extended" support until 2020. Took about 1/2 hour to DL the SP1 update when I installed Win 7 on the newer system. Still trying to sort out some folder 'permissions' for access!
