A Few Tablet Questions

Postby c327 » Fri May 02, 2014 9:34 am

I have an iPad Air tablet, my first Apple product and my first tablet. The iPad is nice and performs well but I am having trouble liking the non Microsoft O.S.

All the apps it seems are geared towards Apple only and reminds me of my old time bad experience with the Dell computer and their proprietary hardware.

Although the horse already left the gate I am now wondering if I made a mistake in buying this iPad and should have bought one that would sync well with Windows and my current Windows programs that I have installed on my Windows desktop and pappy?

Is there a good quality tablet that uses a Windows O.S. or one that will fully sync with a Windows desktop PC? I would like to be able to transfer files and folders from one to the other easily.

Aside from this issue this tablet is great. Thanks all for your opinions.......

No. Still have XP Pro. I am trying to ride out XP as long as I can (I know it no longer is supported) until Windows 9 or what ever comes out next.

Been looking at one of these.

Doesn't have a front facing camera, but for me, not an issue. I would stay away from Windows RT, as the only applications you can run are Microsoft, which you have to buy!

The included, detachable, keyboard is nice.
I have a photographic memory, only problem is, I ran out of film.

you can "relatively" easily get windows tablets to sync with XP. after using a surface pro 2 at work for a while, i'm not a huge fan of moving back and forth between desktop and tablet - especially for any productivity work. i found it easier to just dump stuff onto a box account(or similar online cloud-type file storage) and have both my laptop and the tablet linked to it. as long as you have internet access, you have all your files.

i didn't find any issues with moving between documents/etc on the tablet and my laptop, however i'm using windows 7 - not xp. depending on the office version you have there may be some slight issues - but, i don't think it would be a dealbreaker.

Apple products are somewhat dedicated to their own OS designs.. but there are apps which allow cross-platform communications. There are several MS apps that are available for the iPad, but best to get them at an Apple store.. ensuring 100% compatibility and free of "parasites".
The OS for any type of tablet (or pad) is based more on the Android platform than Windows OS versions. Installing a Microsoft® OS on an iPad may void any warranties!
For substitution of MS Office®, look at the Open Office equivalent.. free, and in versions for tablets, PCs, other computer types.

What files do you want to sync?
I have been programming on computers since the ZX81.
I am an apprentice trained Electronics Engineer with qualifications to back it up.
I have been repairing computers since 1996.
Yet to some people I still know nothing...
