LED Backlit Laptops

Postby c327 » Sun May 04, 2014 5:13 am

Now that LED backlit laptops have been out for a while I was wondering if there are any folks here that own one and have used a flouresent backlit one in the past. If so I am interested in knowing if you noticed an increase in battery use from charge to charge using the backlit lappy. Does the battery last any longer and if so how much longer?

My 6 year old Sager lappy needs a new battery $$ and I was thinking of getting a new lappy even though this PC works fine, very happy with it.

Your comments and suggestions are appreciated.........Thanks.

LEDs are a lot more efficient than fluorescent backlights!
Battery draw is a lot higher for fluorescent tubes. They need power-wasting inverters for the high voltage used by fluorescent tubes (50 to 65 volts) to produce light output. LEDs do not need power inverters.
Battery life may be up to 4x longer with LED lamps than with fluorescent lamps in identical equipment.

new laptops are also gonna be WAY more efficient in how the cpu and graphics clock down when not in use, too, which also greatly effects battery life... so it can't really be an apples to apples comparison on just the screen.
