DVD burning software not loading files.

Postby BIGMAN131307 » Mon Jan 27, 2014 6:16 am

I've been using Sothink Movie DVD Maker (free version) for some time.

So far it's been pretty good. A couple snags a while back. But easily overcome. But now I have a weird problem.

I have some MP4 files that I want to burn to a DVD. But when I try to load
them into the movie maker, only some load. I then get a message stating
"These files failed to load". Then it lists the files.

All of the files are MP4, and they all play. In the folder I keep them in the ones that load have a screen shot of the video for there icon. While the others have the VLC Media Player icon.

What do I need to do to fix this problem? Convert the files? Use another program? Which one (free version with no limitations)?

It sounds like those MP4s with the VLC icons are not MP4s. Open them with VLC and see what they actually are...

They all open in VLC and play as MP4s.

How do I check to see if they are something else?

____________

I already tried converting the problem MP4s to avi. Now they open in Sothink, but the burn file is too big. So I'm going to try and convert back
to MP4s. Maybe the original MP4s had problems?

VLC should be able to provide the data on the files. the following is a workaround i've seen used in the past...might not be your exact issue but could put you on the right track:

The tag name (**.tag) of a file should denote its format and associate player needs. But some files are not properly tagged, but a universal player can still render it normally.. such as WMP or VLC. Only by 'reading' the beginning of a file, would you know its true format.
Two reasons your copy session fails could be that there is either not enough free contiguous space on the primary drive for the burn-proof cache, or there is a copyright signature (DRM) in the data file that requires authority to copy or transfer it. You may have a rootkit on your system.. which will abort any attempt to copy or transfer files associated to this nuisance. iTunes is one such example.
Converting the file to a different format and back may not neuter that DRM signature!

Download Handbrake (its unlimited free open source). Run the problem files through it (converts to .mp4), if the file converts correctly use the Handbrake converted file. If the file doesn't convert properly there is an issue with the file, check the file name and make it as short and simple as possible with no chracters or spaces.
