MSI P35 Neo + new Graphics card?

Postby Kilser » Tue Oct 15, 2013 9:48 am

Hi,
I have a nvidia gtx 260 graphics card with a P35 Neo motherboard and a core 2 quad 2.4 ghz processor. I want to get a new graphics card, and am wondering which nvdia gtx card would work on the mobo. Any help/advice greatly appreciated
:D

pretty much any pci-e card will work, the only thing you need to really check on is how much power the card you are going to put in needs. your older motherboard may not provide enough juice through the pci-e slot alone, so if you get a card that requires more than 75 watts, but doesn't have an auxiliary power connection, you might have issues.
then there is your power supply, and whether it has enough power to run the new card.
also realize that you will be held back a bit by using an older cpu with this new tech, so temper your expectations for what a brand new vga card does for you.

what kind of budget are you looking at for a new card?

Hi,
Thanks a mil for getting back to me. My power supply should be fine, its I think a 600 w PSU. I'm looking to upgrade my system some time next year and would love to get a card that will work on my current mobo and on any new system. I would love to get something like a gtx 650,ti but I don't even know if that would work, or if my mobo would have the required number of slots to hold a card like that. I'd have up to €200 to spend. Once again thanks for the feedback, any more info is gratefully accepted :D

from what I see most of the 650's I can find pictures of have an auxiliary power connection, so you should be good to go with that one.
600 watts should be enough, and just remember you might need to update vga driver to get the card working fully, so dl latest NVidia driver before you install the card.

also note that by "sometime next year" there could be a whole new range of cards to choose from... also don't count out AMD cards, there's lots of value to be had from the green team in the vga card front.
