Window's 10 (Cloud) ?????

Postby c327 » Mon Sep 23, 2013 3:55 am

I know this is getting a little ahead of things maybe but after reading about Windows 10 or a cloud type OS has me a little concerned.

The idea behind this cloud type OS is that the computing power will be on the servers end and then streamed down to the users PC. Probably because of smart phones and tablets.

My concern is that since a users data is going some where else first before it does to it's intended destination that some where along the line it can be observed and or recorded by others. If this is true then I don't like it, not that I may have much to say about it all.

i tend to agree, however this is the way it will be in the future. there is no changing it unless there is a huge shift in technology(i.e. massive power-handling improvements or huge changes to hardware/software coding....things of that nature).

it may have some pushback over the years, but it's going to happen. using microsoft's XboxOne "mess" for example. i think their model will be the future, yet John Q. Public couldn'thandle it yet. another 3 to 5 years and it'll be accepted - another 5-10 years and it will probably be the defacto norm.

The term "MY" computer may soon be obsolete, if those dreams come to be. We all will be obligated to 'share' computing time with a virtual computer.. and artificial reality. Then after we all are too dependent on its services, we will have to pay a fee to access our private data!
Hopefully, not in my lifetime!!

it's almost like going back to the dumb terminals - but, there still will most likely be a semblance of individuality on your device(whether large or small).

while the up-and-coming generation is quite comfortable with sharing nearly everything, they still have a pretty strong hold on materialism and ownership of "things". so - i don't think people will give up completely the idea of the individuality which owning YOUR own thing maintains.

kids these days...

Well I have thought about Linux but from what I have read some hardware that normally runs on a Windows O.S. will not run on a Linux system?

Does the same apply to Windows software like Office? As an example, will MS Office, Word etc. run on a Linux system?

Some time around April of 2014 I am going to have make a decision on a couple of new O.S. installs as this XP Pro SP3 will no longer be supported. I guess Windows 9 or what ever it will be called will be out by then.

I think that the Internet as we know it now will be totally different 10 years from now if not sooner.

c327: is there a strong reason why you want to run Microsoft Office on your system? Do you have a lot invested in macro's and forms, procedures etc? Or would any other good Office suite do the job as well? Something like OpenOffice or LibreOffice? As for the hardware can you give real-life examples? Because I think even the dumb windows printing-system devices (I refuse to call those POS printers) have basic functionality under Linux now.

bdub: indeed it will be 8.2 or 8.3 more likely (SP2 and SP3 for windows 8).
