This concerns an XP Pro SP3 PC.
Can using CCleaner often damage the registry? It seems I have something missing regarding the memory. Getting an out of memory on line ---.
This PC has pleanty of memory

The "out of memory on line ---." is a general warning. Check on the true reason. Is it a true system memory condition, or storage space?
Use the Task Manager to check on memory usage and reserve. If indeed there is a "loss" of memory or excessive usage, it may be some sort of viral infection that is replicating! Or perhaps too many background programs active. Any programs that are not actually needed should be disabled. More than six icons in the SysTray box (plus the date/time and speaker) is a bit excessive.
C Cleaner should not damage the Registry. But with any editing of the Registry, best to do a backup copy beforehand. Some programs may reserve a specific range of memory for their needs.. or dynamic links to other programs.

No icons in the systems tray, just the clock. Running a selective start-up. As I type this the Task Manager is showing 1% CPU usage and 635mb of PF and 43 processes. Physical memory Total 3397896 Available 2732696 Cache 1133440 Kernal Memory Total 81540 Paged 52228 Nonpaged 29308. Some of this I don't understand ??

Redownload and reinstall ccleaner, from filehippo.com if you can, so far I never had an issue with stuff taken from there. If this is the latest version, get the previous version. Your version is somehow damaged (not properly downloaded/installed) or has a bug (even that happens).

Another reason for "out of memory" warnings could be insufficient free contiguous space on the "C" drive. There should be no less than 10% free space (20% is preferred) on the "C" drive, for virtual memory use and the Pagefile needs. Not having defragged the drive in a long time can result in free space that is scattered about.. and no "whole" or contiguous free space for page file and virtual memory writes. Page File Size: MS Reference
If practicable, relegate secondary (non-OS related) programming to another drive, such as "D" or other. Reserve the "C" drive for programming specific to the OS needs. All other programs will work as well as if on the primary drive partition. With OS versions prior to Win XP, primary partition space could be around 20 gigs with no faults. But with recent OS versions, you would need minimal 40 gigs to be within preferred size limits.
The OS will constantly write and rewrite data to the "C" drive, maybe several times per minute.. and always in a new data space. This results in fragmentation of data files.
The specific "Pagefile.sys" file is a reference pool that the OS creates for its needs. It can be a boon or a bane to the OS performance. If contiguous, best results. If fragmented, then the OS has to waste time searching the storage space for required data paths and associations.

HDD is 92% free. Page file size is showing 4860mb and set to adjust for programs. System defragged. HDD not partitioned everthing on C drive. HDD 500gb

Will delete CCleaner and download a fresh copy from the Hippo.Thanks
