I'm thinking of doing an 'in-place' install i.e. installing it over Windows 7. Is this advised? Or format and install? I have a lot of crap on my system I don't want to move right now.
Do those upgrading from 7 to 8 stand to lose anything significant, i.e. performance, features, freedom (in terms of more enforced DRM)?
Not gonna be using the UI from Idiocracy, so I'm not worried about the performance hit from that too much, not that I have weak hardware anyway. _________________ Truth saves you, while lies destroy you |

Usually the first things to suffer are performance and hard drive space - I would advise a fresh install if you could do it.
Other things that might happen are programs may not work correctly, like adobe or something. _________________ "Imagination is the only weapon in the war against reality." -Jules de Gautier

Fresh install is the best way, but running an upgarde from 7 to 8 went pretty smooth. It does eat hard drive space, even on the clean install, but boot times are fast and once you get use to the tiles, it is pretty slick... _________________ I have been programming on computers since the ZX81.

Anyway I would advise to make a copy of all things that you wouldn't like to loose. Just in case everything goes wrong.
And I would also wait for the release of service pack. The OS would work more stable then. |
