Just got my March 2011 issue of Popular Mechanics®, and on page 58 there is an article about how some staff members built a powerful computer into a rolling tool cabinet! The basic components were an Asus Crosshair IV Formula motherboard, AMD 3.3 GHz Phenom II X6 CPU, ATI Radeon HD 5870 video card, Samsung 470 Series 265 GB hard drive, 3 x 2 GB of Kingston water-cooled memory, a Wabcom Bamboo® touchpad with pen, and a 1,000 watt liquid-cooled PSU. A borescope via USB and Scan XL OBD II USB tools were added.. as well as a printer, keyboard and monitor.
Yes, water-cooled memory and a water-cooled 1,000 watt PSU were mentioned. The system is entirely water-cooled, tucked neatly into the cabinet drawers. The larger bottom drawer of the tool cabinet has two large fans and the radiator, plus most of the system. The top drawer holds the keyboard, mouse and other GUI devices. From the article, the cost of this "mod" was a bit over $3300.00 USD! And it has Wi-fi Internet!!
But hey.. with today's vehicles, you need a computer to do minor diagnostics or repairs!! _________________ F@H.. to solve mankind's maladies.. in our lifetimes! |
