I'm about to start my 1st (HTPC) build. scared

Can someone point me to, or spell out, a step by step guide to the BIOS settings that need to be changed before I install the OS?

This is the specs...

processor: AMD A4-3400
ssd: Crucial M4 64 gb

As far as I can tell there's no special settings needed for windows 7.

Do update your drivers after installing:

Check the manual for additional information for the install, in general Gigabyte's manuals are quite decent.

owww oops missed the SSD part completely.

I suspect most if not all of the settings are already right by default in the bios but it can never hurt to check.

Should not be any special settings needed. But do set all control lines on the BIOS pages to how the system is configured. If there is a setting for modem use, disable that if not used. Same with audio or video features for on-board systems, if using a sound card or graphics card add-in. Set the controllers for storage drives as "auto" or "JBOD" unless setting up a RAID array. If using a USB type keyboard or mouse, enable the "legacy" feature for the USB ports. The default would be the PS2 ports. Otherwise, a keyboard or mouse would not be detected from USB ports, until the OS is active.
For the initial install of the OS, set the boot path to first check an optical drive, then the hard drive. After the install is solid, then set the hard drive as first choice for boot path. Only a DVD-type optical drive will work with the latest OS installs!

Only thing I've ever worried about changing is boot priority. Changing it from a HD to a DVD drive so the Windows CD loads first. Normally, the stock settings are good to go. Other changes are just for further teaking. Never used a SSD though.
