I ended up using uniflash but the system freezes right after I type the following...... uniflash g400125i.bin. The cursor moves down to the next line and just blinks after accessing the floppy. I swapped in the other chip just before pressing enter.

When you just type uniflash what chiptype does it detect? Or does it hang as well? Can be the bios chip itself is defective. _________________ We hate rut, but we fear change.

It hangs as soon as it is run. I haven't tried running uniflash by itself.
Okay, I booted the computer with a win98 boot disk and ran uniflash by itself and it reads the disk for a moment and then moves down a line with a blinking cursor and just sits there. I have to reboot the board to get it freed up. Now keep in mind that I didn't swap in the corrupted chip at this point.
I also loaded uniflash with the -h for help and it still freezes. The computer doesn't fully freeze. I still get a response from the keyboard when pressing numlock or capslock to turn the indicators on and off. The cursor continues to blink also.

I tried uniflash -h for help on my computer also to see if it would do the same thing and it did.
I decided to get an older version of awdflash. I was using awdflash version 5.2c and stepped back to version 5.2b which was updated to support the bios chip that I want to repair. Now when I run awdflash by itself, the screen flashes and I get the following message.....
Your program caused a divide overflow error.
If the problem persists, contact your program vendor.
I get an a:\ prompt but unable to type. I have to reboot to free it up.
I downloaded the flash program from the following site that has a complete list....

Update.... I found that Windows 7 apparently doesn't like floppy disks. This is after swapping drives with the same results. It would read the disks from the other computer but as soon as it would write a file to the disk, it would no longer recognize it. I ended up using another computer with win xp on it and was able to get a good boot disk created and also I used a usb stick to transfer the two files I downloaded onto my win 7 computer to the older xp computer. I then transferred those two files to disk and in turn moved to the other computer that I'm using to hot flash the bios and was able to use uniflash without a problem. I ran uniflash with the current bios and it detected it fine. I then swapped in the other bios and typed the following command..... uniflash followed by the .bin file and pressed enter. It couldn't recognize the bios and asked if it was boot locked. It wouldn't go any further so now I'm going to try awdflash to see how it responds.
Matt
Another update......
I just ran awdflash version 5.2c. I typed it like so....
awdflash g400125i.bin /Py and got the following message....
Error Message : It is not Award BIOS !

If uniflash isn't recognizing that old bios chip there's a good chance it is damaged. What is the actual make/model of the bios chip from the PB810? _________________ We hate rut, but we fear change.

I just posted an update on the post prior to yours.
As for the BIOS on the PB810, it has a sticker on top that says AWARD ISA, PCI 586 TRITON 119199959 |

I downloaded and ran awdflash893 and now it says the following.....
The program file's part number does not match with your system!
Is there a way to force it to write the file anyway?

Ok, I'll see if I can find the original matching flash utility then because this experimenting with various awdflash gives me the creeps a bit... _________________ We hate rut, but we fear change.

I'm not sure if you saw my last post. I posted the same time you did according to the time slot but it seems I have a better shot with the version I'm using now because it isn't telling me that it isn't an AWARD BIOS this time. It just says that the BIOS file doesn't match my system. I was just wondering if there is a way to force it to write to the chip.
If you find the original flash utility than that may help also.
Matt
I ran UniFlash to see what the current flash rom chip is which is good, it says Intel 82802ab/3.3v (firmware Hub)
Organisation: sectored: 8x64k (512k)
PCI chipset: Intel 810 |
