Hi,

ok seems I've caused confusion (apologies).

1. BIOS Startup screen is registering 1024MB (ie. 1GB).
2. Windows itself is registering only 1GB (Right My Computer - Properties)
3. Task Manager is showing only 1GB Memory.

Kind Regards
Danie

I quote my previous post:

Quote:
note: I just realized that i havent got the latest BIOS update. The foxconn BIOS version numbers and release dates are slightly confusing - dates dont match version numbers and they are sorted all funny. This might be worth a try (to update to latest BIOS). You never know.

I was under the impression P20 was the latest. You'll notice their sorting is all funny. I will update soonest and post my result.

Many thanks again
Danie

Yep, usually it is sorted reverse date, I can see where your confusion comes from. Ok, we'll be waiting.

HI everyone,

thanks for your patience and help so far.

I've updated to the latest BIOS 5B4F1P28, but nope no difference. Guessing that was about the last option (prior to finding other ram)?

regards
danie

To me it looks like 2Gb over four slots, so going on that if you have two slots then you will be limited to 1gb over two slots - I may be wrong and a BIOS update may resolve, but I have not seen this problem on a DDR2 board unless all slots are populated... In this case they are if you stick two sticks in.. Is the board from a prebuilt system (ie E-Machines)...

hi mr.t,

nope, this is a custom built system. From what you say (and what I understand), it could be that the chipset supports up to 2gb ram, but it might be that the implementation / board design requires four slots. It seems like sound reasoning. appreciated all the input (from all participants).

Compatibility list forMEMORY : Socket 775 : P4M800P7MB-RS2H

No results from the memory compatibility list on the Foxconn website for this board. Checking the memory compatibility wizards gives

Kingston ValueRAM 1024MB PC2-3200 400MHz DDR2 CL3 DIMM (KVR400D2N3/1G) as possible option for 2GB operation.

Transcend, Dane-Elec and Crucial have no information on this board.

Going to swop out for two other 1GB chips soon - these are definitely older - hopefully lower density chips. Will see if they make a difference and post back.

Hi,

I eventualyl swopped out some RAM from 1 pc to another. I added two other sticks of 1GB's to this machine (double side) and its works now. Figured it was worth a try (because 2GB in 4 chips must be higher density than 2GB in 8 chips - even if it doesn't quite correlate in that way). Machine now recognizes 2GB of memory in total.

Thanks for all the inputs - I would have tried these memory modules earlier (had I remembered about them). smile
